We start the day with a general introduction to glass fusing with a bit of technical and safety information thrown in.
You’ll learn the basics of cutting and shaping glass in relation to small detailed jewellery pieces. We then go on to explore the effects of using different glasses, micas, inclusions and oxides, dichroic glass, confetti, frits and stringers. Creativity and imagination is the key.
We’ll look at different techniques for turning the cabochons you produce into pendants, earrings, brooches and other items of jewellery including working with different jewellery findings, fixings, balls and wireworks. We’ll use a combination of the microwave pot kiln and the Kilncare electric kiln, but anyting fired in the electric kiln will need to be picked up or posted (£4 fee) to you the following day. By the end of the day you’ll have produced beautiful glass jewellery pieces to wear with pride and wow your friends and family.
Lunch and refreshments are provided on all courses, as are all materials and equipment. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements or allergies. Please wear closed toe shoes for safety reasons. Whilst we strive to be totally inclusive, the Stonefield Glass studio is attached to our family home and we are unable to accommodate some wheelchairs. Please get in touch to discuss your specific requirements.
Please note that courses will only run with a minimum of two participants. If your booking is the only one for a date then I will contact you to arrange a date change or a full refund.
