We start the day with a general introduction to glass fusing with a bit of technical and safety information thrown in.
You’ll learn the basics of cutting and shaping glass for the kiln and we’ll explore various creative techniques including layering and stacking, using metal inclusions, micas, oxides, glassline pens, kiln papers, dichroics, confetti, frits and stringers. We’ll also experiment with kiln carving with carbon fibre board and rope to create relief.
You’ll create two pieces – one hanging piece using inclusions, micas and glassline pens, and an art glass platter. Your pieces will be fired overnight in our Kilncare electric kiln and will be ready to be picked up the following afternoon. If you’d prefer we can send your pieces on to you by courier (this costs £10 – you can arrange and pay this on the day of your workshop).
Lunch and refreshments are provided on all courses, as are all materials and equipment. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements or allergies. Please wear closed toe shoes for safety reasons. Whilst we strive to be totally inclusive, the Stonefield Glass studio is attached to our family home and we are unable to accommodate some wheelchairs. Please get in touch to discuss your specific requirements.
Please note that courses will only run with a minimum of two participants. If your booking is the only one for a date then I will contact you to arrange a date change or a full refund.
